Domestic companies account for 95% of Chinese steel consumption; yet, many domestic steelmakers are currently struggling with low margins and weak demand, prompting some major steel firms to declare bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

Baosteel Group<\/h2>\n

Baosteel Group of Shanghai (formerly China Baowu Steel Group Corporation) is the country’s largest steel producer, but is now under increasing pressure due to rising raw material costs and lower demand from downstream clients. Furthermore, the threat of industry overcapacity–some estimates put this figure as high as 300 million tons annually–looms large as well.<\/p>\n

Baosteel began restructuring and expanding its trading operations during the 1990s. Through acquisitions such as Lubao Steel Pipe Corporation and Baogang Yichang Steel Sheets Corporation, it broadened its marketing network across China while simultaneously increasing international trade activities.<\/p>\n

Since the early 2000s, Baosteel has transformed its industrial capabilities to include cutting-edge technologies, satisfying services, and data-based operations. As a result, it has evolved into a global enterprise offering steel products, technologies, and services to customers around the world.<\/p>\n

Reorganization has opened the company up to new opportunities that enable it to capitalize on its leadership position in the steel industry by offering services and solutions to its clients, such as storage and logistics management, information consulting services and transport management solutions.<\/p>\n

Engineering technology services have also been an area of significant expansion at the company. Innovative technologies developed include a breakout prediction system that uses data analysis to predict equipment performance.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the maintenance division has implemented an improved quality and fault treatment process for its spare parts, leading to faster equipment repairs. This change has decreased repair times significantly.<\/p>\n

Maanshan Iron & Steel Company<\/h2>\n

Maanshan Iron & Steel Company, established in Anhui and located near Shanghai since 1993, is one of China’s premier iron and steel producers. Producing steel plates, section steel bars, wire rods and train wheels used throughout construction, machinery manufacturing and automobile industries worldwide.<\/p>\n

The Company offers advanced cold-rolled and hot-rolled sheets, galvanized and color-coated sheets, galvanized H-beams, H-beams, construction wires and bars, high quality special steels as well as construction wires and bars; plus train wheels and tyres from its various production lines.<\/p>\n

These products can be found in construction, automobiles, household electrical appliances and boilers – among other places – with primary export markets being Southeast Asia, Europe and America.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Company also supplies high-quality wire rod and rebar-in-coil products. These are sold mainly for pre-stressed concrete strand wire and spring steel wire applications in construction work as well as railway wheels.<\/p>\n

Maanshan Iron & Steel is one of the largest and most diverse industrial enterprises in Anhui Province, specialising in production, processing, marketing, equipment manufacturing, technology consulting services, labor services and other business activities. Additionally, they own several facilities specializing in ironmaking, rolling product marketing mineral mining and engineering activities.<\/p>\n

At present, Maanshan Iron and Steel is engaging in an ambitious transformation and upgrading program designed to achieve sustainable development. This project seeks to enhance Maanshan Iron and Steel’s competitive edge both locally and abroad through improving operating efficiencies, optimizing business processes and increasing profits. It primarily focuses on these areas.<\/p>\n

To meet its goal, the company has implemented an optimization management mode consisting of daily tracking and reporting, weekly report summaries, monthly summaries and project planning. This scheme enables real-time progress monitoring as well as realigning resources accordingly.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, the Company has achieved outstanding financial performance. Gross revenue increased 34% while operating income increased 40%.<\/p>\n

Chongqing Iron & Steel (Group) Company<\/h2>\n

Chongqing Iron & Steel (Group) Company is an integrated iron and steel production and trading firm. Operating an annual capacity of eight million tons, they offer long products, hot rolled coils and plates with end market exposure in construction, infrastructure, shipbuilding and automotive industries.<\/p>\n

The Company operates an integrated network of sintering, iron making and steel rolling plants across Chongqing, Ningbo and Tangshan with three major production bases for each production stage and five subsidiary companies within its Group.<\/p>\n

Key Chinese iron and steel companies reported record revenues and profits last year as China’s state efforts to shutter low-grade, polluting mills helped stabilize prices. Executives anticipate consolidation and reorganization within the industry going forward to enable sustained growth even during market downturns.<\/p>\n

Analysts expect the transition of Beijing-based Sinosteel Group Corp into Shanghai-based China Baosteel Steel Group will both enhance the structure of China’s steel industry and stabilize prices, according to State Council (China’s cabinet) approval earlier this year.<\/p>\n

As part of its restructuring plan, the company will be placed under management by WL Ross & Co, a steel and energy services company located in New York City that specializes in distressed assets like bankrupt mills in both North America and Europe.<\/p>\n

WL Ross & Co and Chongqing Steel will collaborate during this restructuring to bring debt down from around RMB20 billion to approximately RMB3.5 billion, eliminate liabilities and invest in Chongqing Steel’s upstream steel-making assets. Furthermore, Chongqing Steel will be reorganized so as to concentrate on higher margin steel products and operations.<\/p>\n

Restructuring should lead to reduced costs, higher margins and an increase in cash flow. Additionally, this process will enable the Company to strengthen its operational capabilities and expand into new markets.<\/p>\n

The Company produces plates for shipbuilding, pressure vessel plates, boilers, high-speed wire prod, normal carbon structural plates, hot rolled coils, cold-rolled thin plates and steel billets. It operates facilities in Chongqing, Ningbo, Hebei and Tangshan.<\/p>\n

Key shareholders for Magang Group include the government of People’s Republic of China, WL Ross & Co and Magang Group. Furthermore, this company also boasts numerous strategic partnerships and affiliates.<\/p>\n

Jianlong Steel<\/h2>\n

Jianlong Steel Company is an industry leader in China, producing and trading steel products for various industries and projects – such as building & construction, automotive, metal products, electrical equipment and household appliances.<\/p>\n

Products by this company are sold in over 20 countries and regions, such as the US, Australia, Germany, New Zealand and The Netherlands. Their production line stands out with constant technical innovation, high quality outputs and exceptional services provided to customers.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the company recorded total revenues of 1.22 billion yuan and net profits of 3.797 million yuan, while operating income totaled 1.3 billion yuan with an 8.2% return on equity ratio.<\/p>\n

One of the company’s key innovations is using hydrogen fuelled iron plants, which it claims can cut CO2 emissions by 40-60% when compared with blast furnace. This strategy aligns with China’s campaign to cut overall carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 as part of an ongoing push away from coal as an energy source.<\/p>\n

The company seeks to increase its presence in Shanxi Province by upgrading existing production lines, actively developing new projects, and transitioning from the Haixin Iron and Steel Group into the Shanxi Jianlong Group.<\/p>\n

Jianlong Refractories have earned wide praise among China’s steel producers, as they can withstand extreme temperatures present in steel furnaces while saving energy and increasing productivity. Furthermore, several Chinese steel mills have signed full-service agreements with Jianlong for installation, testing, maintenance and repair services of their refractories.<\/p>\n

Products manufactured by this company are used in multiple industries and have garnered numerous awards and honors, reaching markets in over two dozen countries such as the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand Europe and The Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Jianlong has also made significant strides in developing new energy and intelligent manufacturing, through projects that save energy and reduce carbon.
